Also called ANPR, Survision's LPR (License Plate Recognition) technology combines OCR and Neural Networks to make our cameras “optically” read a vehicle’s license plate and transform the graphic data into digital information in real-time (20ms).
We took the heavy LPR/ANPR servers away from the equation by providing our LPR cameras with AI-powered firmware to do the most challenging part of the job.
Why do we do that?
Our ANPR cameras don't need any physical device to activate the LPR process; they constantly scan for license plates on the fly; this is called No Trigger Mode. Survision LPR cameras are ideal for triggerless systems such as ticketless parking, free-flow tolling, etc.
Our cameras can also be activated by an external device (Classic Trigger Mode), just like any other camera on the market.
Our goal is to get rid of the physical triggers and save lots of money on infrastructure, but we know that sometimes they are still needed; that is why our cameras cover the whole spectrum of possible scenarios.
LPR cameras are often part of a more complex environment in which LPR/ANPR data interacts with other information (databases or events) in the whole decision-making algorithm. Survision LPR cameras have their SDK for communicating with your system and to be programmatically triggered (after checking on the database, after ticket retrieval, before opening the barrier, etc.).
This feature is called software trigger and makes our cameras the ideal companion to intelligent solutions in Access Control, Tolling, Security, Parking or Smart cities.
In cases such as tolling, vehicles can go as fast as 250 km/h (155 mph); reading plates in these scenarios is achievable by high-speed LPR cameras; that is why Survision has focused on building LPR cameras capable of reading and processing license plates in only 20 milliseconds!
This opens a whole world of possibilities when thinking about barrierless, gateless, or ticketless operations by allowing vehicles to ”just keep going” with no speed reduction at all.
Survision LPR/ANPR cameras can provide additional information for each reading:
Photo (JPEG) of the License Plate: Survision LPR cameras supply a JPEG of the plate for real-time and later manual verifications.
Continuous, real-time video flow: used for security matters and a better understanding of installation and setting issues.
Country and state: These are critical contextual identification elements for some countries or states sharing the same license plate syntax rules.
Direction (of movement): It helps the system eliminate counting or synchronization issues and helps drivers get noticed when going in the wrong direction.
Vehicle Speed: For informational or pedagogical purposes, public display of driving speed has been proved as a speed reduction method.
Defined as "the level of certainty that the system has about a given license plate having been read accurately", LPR Confidence Level is an AI-powered probabilistic calculation that measures “how sure the system is” that its reading is accurate.
A high-quality Confidence Level help operators make better decisions regarding when to approve or discard a reading; correctly used, it can lead to significant operative cost reductions.
Survision has invested heavily in providing a high-quality Confidence Level.
Through the integration of human analysis across extensive collections of license plates, Convolutional Neural networks AI models work on a significantly greater number of variables with enhanced efficiency, not only for LPR accuracy but also for more intricate and valuable calculations. At survision, we are currently using AI technology for these calculations:
Shutter synchronized and automatically adjusted: The light powers on only when necessary, enhancing the LED’s lifespan and reducing heat, power consumption, and harmfulness.
Survision LPR cameras automatically adapt their lighting parameters to consider the surrounding lighting changes and maintain a clear image.
The right wavelength: All Survision LPR cameras are available in White Light, best for colored characters or 850nm infrared (IR) light for black characters.
Survision LPR/ANPR cameras are built to do one job only: Read license plates.
Survision cameras can resist as cold as -40°C / °F and hot as +55 °C / 131 °F
