Düsseldorf Airport manages approximately 20,000 parking spaces for clients, employees, and third-party providers. The parking management service provider is APCOA. A designated parking area at the arrival level is reserved for taxis, Ride-Hailing, crew shuttles, and VIP services.
The challenge was to find a way to grant access to this area to the correct service providers and subcontractors. Each has different vehicles, and sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances, the vehicles that need to access the airport can change at the last minute.

Managing this flexibility with a physical form of identification, such as a card, is possible but highly complicated. In total, 2,500 vehicles could potentially need access to the transfer hub at any given time.
To address the challenge, Survision LPR cameras have been installed at the Transfer Hub's two entrances and one exit.

These advanced cameras automatically recognize and grant access to any vehicle with a registered license plate, ensuring seamless entry and exit. This digital solution eliminates the need for physical identification methods such as cards or QR codes, significantly simplifying the process.
The system enhances operational efficiency and provides greater flexibility, allowing up to 2,500 vehicles to access the hub without delays or complications.
The implementation of this system has successfully digitized the entire access process. Initially, all license plates had to be entered into the parking management software. Once Survision LPR was implemented, Uber drivers, along with other registered service providers, can now access the airport's parking zone without queuing or waiting at the entry or exit points.
This streamlined process allows for immediate registration of new license plates, providing the airport with significant operational flexibility.
Seamless Exit
Furthermore, the system offers comprehensive monitoring capabilities, enabling the airport to track:
Additionally, the system provides the capability to block specific license plates from entering the hub if necessary. Overall, this digitization has enhanced efficiency, reduced congestion, and improved the overall management of the transfer hub.
